Blended Learning is expanding at Ann K. Heiman!

On December 18 we learned that Ann K. Heiman was selected to be a pilot site for the third year (2015-16) implementation of blended learning as part of District 6 collaboration with The Learning Accelerator!  This is a huge celebration for our school.  Check out the blended learning link here on our website for more information about what our district is doing! Teachers at AKH are already engaging students in many ways and this is an opportunity for us to receive additional support to continue efforts in utilizing technology and collaboration.  Here are some of the benefits for students:

• Promotes independent, self-motivated learning

• Encourages higher levels of engagement

• Relevancy: it allows students to apply their learning to real-world applications

• Individualized learning: students can speed up or slow down their pace depending on individual needs

• Remaining with their age-level peers while accessing higher-level content

• Learning is tailored to an individual’s interests and preferred learning style

• Learning can happen anywhere, at any time, while giving students access to global experts and information

• Mirror their learning to the world of work

• Real-time feedback is readily available

• Post-secondary workforce readiness, whether attending college or pursuing jobs after graduation

Ann K. Heiman is named the Top Colorado recycling school in the Great American Can Roundup Schools Challenge!

We are pleased to announce AKH's achievement as top recycling school in Colorado.  Students recycled 65,450 cans which is 1,925 pounds of cans.  This is about 2.74 pounds per student.  We would like to highlight and thank 5th grade teacher, Ms. Stefanie Hutchins, who inspired and led this effort.  In March Ms. Hutchins planned a community event at the Greeley Harley Davidson shop which brought in over 520 pounds of cans!  We appreciate the support of the students, staff, and community for helping us to win.  We won $1,000 from the great American can round up program.  We also earned about 600$ from recycling the cans themselves.

Welcome to a new year at Ann K. Heiman Elementary!  We are so excited that you are a part of the Huskies!
